The momentum towards health promotion

Each year close to 36 million people die from non-communicable disease (NCDs) with 29 million in low- and middle-income countries.  Up to 80% of these total deaths are caused by cancer, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes and other tobacco related conditions.  Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of diseases, disabilities, and deaths.  It is on of the four modifiable risk factors (others include physical inactivity, unhealthy diet and the harmful use of alcohol)
